Attention: Contractors, Carpenters, Plumbers, Electricians, Painters, Window Replacement Installers
Beginning April 22, 2010, you will need to be certified in Lead Paint Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP).
Any home or building constructed before 1978 that maintains children or pregnant women requires this certification. Those found not in compliance risk a $32,000 daily fine from the EPA. Detailed information can be found at the EPA web site at www.epa.gov. Your local Home Builders Association is also a good source of detailed information about this subject, and there are training and certification classes being formed.
HOMEOWNERS: If you are a homeowner performing renovation, repair, or painting work in your own home the EPA rule does not cover your project. You are responsible for the safety of your family. If you are living in a home or building that was constructed before 1978, there is a pamphlet available from the EPA that offers guidelines on working with projects where lead based paint is present. Please visit the EPA web site at www.epa.gov. You can also call the National Lead Information Center at 1-800-424-LEAD (5323).
